How Specmob ranks phones

Every score and ranking on Specmob comes from listed specifications. We do not run hands-on tests, we do not accept payment for placement, and every brand is scored by the same rules.

The Smart Score

The overall Smart Score is the average of six component scores, each from 1 to 10. Each component is rated against the phone's market tier (budget, mid-range, upper mid-range, flagship or ultra flagship), so a score describes quality within a tier, not across the whole market. That is why Specmob shows the tier next to a score.

Camera

Main sensor, stabilization, ultrawide, telephoto and zoom, and video capability.

Performance

Chipset class and memory, plus benchmark results where they are listed.

Battery

Capacity relative to the device, wired and wireless charging speed.

Display

Panel type, refresh rate, resolution, brightness and size.

Build

Materials, water and dust resistance, and durability technology.

Value

What the hardware delivers for the listed price in its tier.

Scoring never invents specifications. When a value is not listed, such as a benchmark result, it is treated as unknown and the written analysis says so.

Best-of rankings

Each ranking uses its own formula and a limit on phones per brand, so one manufacturer cannot fill a whole list. Regional editions are excluded.

Best Camera Phones

Computed from listed camera hardware, not image tests: main sensor light-gathering (sensor area over aperture squared) and OIS, telephoto, video, ultrawide and selfie. Megapixels of the main camera are not used. 50% comes from our AI camera score when available; missing AI scores are estimated consistently from the category pool.

Best Battery Life

Estimated screen-on hours from battery energy (Wh) and display area. An estimate from specifications, not a measured endurance test.

Best Gaming Phones

Chipset performance (AnTuTu where listed, otherwise the median of phones with the same chipset, otherwise our AI performance score), plus RAM, refresh rate and gaming-oriented hardware. Sustained performance and thermals are not measured.

Fastest Charging Phones

Estimated runtime recovered in 15 minutes of wired charging, from charging power, battery energy and display area. Minimum 45W. An estimate; charging curves taper and are not measured.

Lightest Smartphones

Phones up to 180g by lowest listed weight, grouped in 5g bands and ordered by overall score within a band.

Best Compact Phones

Screens from 5.0 to 6.3 inches, ranked 75% on quality and 25% on footprint.

Best Foldable Phones

Foldable form factors ranked by overall score.

Best Water/Dust Resistant Phones

IP67 or better, ranked by overall score.

Best Phones Under $300

Phones priced up to $300, ranked on performance, battery, display and build. Prices flagged as estimated are tracked manually.

Best Phones Under $500

Phones priced up to $500, ranked on performance, battery, display and build. Prices flagged as estimated are tracked manually.

Prices

Prices are shown in US dollars. The price on a phone page is the lowest recorded price across its storage configurations. Buy buttons appear only when a retailer offer exists, and some retail links are affiliate links. Affiliate relationships never change a ranking.
